Description
Overview
Clos Michet is an iconic single-vineyard cuvée from Domaine de La Taille aux Loups, located within the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation. This dry white wine reveals the full nobility of Chenin Blanc, the Loire's signature grape variety, crafted with passion and respect by Jacky Blot. The Clos Michet cuvée stands out for its purity, minerality and exceptional ageing potential.
Estate & Appellation
Domaine de La Taille aux Loups, under the stewardship of Jacky Blot, ranks among the benchmark estates of the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation. Situated opposite Vouvray on the other side of the Loire, Montlouis benefits from a unique terroir composed of clay-limestone soils and tuffeau. The estate cultivates its vines biodynamically, with deep respect for the environment and terroir expression.
Viticulture & Vinification
Clos Michet comes from a carefully selected parcel worked using biodynamic farming. The Chenin Blanc vines are tended with particular care, favouring hand-harvesting and optimal grape ripeness. Vinification follows a natural approach, with fermentation using indigenous yeasts and lees ageing that brings complexity and depth to the wine.
Tasting Note
The appearance is a bright pale yellow with greenish hints, marking the youth of this vintage. The nose reveals lovely aromatic complexity with notes of white fruits (pear, apple), citrus, white flowers and a characteristic mineral edge from the tuffeau. On the palate, the attack is crisp and fresh, driven by elegant acidity that frames the wine. The mid-palate shows beautiful mineral tension, citrus and white-fleshed fruit aromas, with a silky texture and great purity. The finish is long, saline and refreshing, hinting at fine ageing potential.
Food Pairing
This Montlouis-sur-Loire pairs beautifully with shellfish (oysters, scallops), fine fish in light sauces, chicken in cream sauce, or regional goat's cheeses such as Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine. It will also complement delicate Asian cuisine or refined vegetarian dishes.
Serving
Serve this wine at 10–12°C to appreciate its full freshness and aromatic complexity. We recommend opening it an hour before serving or decanting to allow it to express itself fully. This wine can be enjoyed in its youth but also has excellent cellaring potential of 10 to 15 years.
Accolades
Domaine de La Taille aux Loups and its single-vineyard cuvées regularly receive acclaim from national and international critics for their exceptional quality and faithful expression of the Montlouis-sur-Loire terroir.
